Comic History

NPR has a new interview with Brian Walker; the son of Mort Walker, co-writer of Hi and Lois and Beetle Bailey, and the co-editor of a new anthology about the history of American comics.

The interview goes over the early hostility toward comics as a vulgar art form. Walker also talks about what it was like growing up in a cartoonist's family, the changes he brought to the strips he writes, and the challenges of balancing the expectations of older strip readers and attracting a younger audience.
