Redbird Cancelled
In what's sure to be disappointing news for many in the comics community, DC Comics has announced that all three issues Razor's Edge: Redbird have been pulled from the publication schedule, and all retail orders have been cancelled. The five issue mini-series was to be written & pencilled by Jason Pearson, with scripting duties handled by Ed Brubaker.
Poised to be a return to monthly comics for artist Jason Pearson, Razor's Edge: Redbird was advertised as the adventures of Nataly Lakota, AKA Redbird, who was part of the cast of a late 1990s Wildstorm series entitled Black Ops. Jason Pearson's exploits in the comic industry had been infrequent as of late, with only one comic (Global Frequency #11) appearing in 2004. Jason Pearson rose in prominence in the comics industry for his work on Legion of Superheroes, and became a fan-favorite artist with his creator-owned miniseries, Body Bags.
Although no official word has been given on the reason for the abrupt cancellation of this title by DC Comics, early speculation is evenly split between two possible scenarios: low orders and/or delays in completion of the book. There have been rumours to past delays in the production of artwork from Pearson, although those reports haven't been substantiated.
