TGC Mailbag: ArchEnemies

Earlier this week Kevin and Michael shared their thoughts on Dark Horse's solicits for April. Drew Melbourne, writer of the new Dark Horse series ArchEnemies, dropped us an email with a few more details about his new comic:

Greetings to the Fine Folks at the Great Curve!

I wanted to write in to clarify a few things about my upcoming Dark Horse series, ArchEnemies, which Michael and Kevin discussed during their "Coming Attractions: Dark Horse" feature on Wednesday.

First, as Michael speculated, we are just doing four issues to start. That's less a statement of the viability of the product though, and more a concession to the market. It is VERY hard to launch a new property these days. That said, if the book does as well as we're hoping, we'll be doing ArchEnemies stories for a long, long time.

Second, I know a lot of people (not just Michael and Kevin) are going to be asking "Why Dark Horse?" I think the answer will be ABUNDANTLY clear when you hold the comic in your hands. Folks who think this is going to be a jokey romp are in for a surprise. There's a reason we call it a "high-concept superhero action comedy drama" in the solicitations and not just, you know, a "comedy."

I like to call ArchEnemies a serious story about funny people. And that's why there are still going to be interesting stories to tell after issue four. Because it's not a one-joke comedy about a crazy living situation. It's the story of two really fascinating characters trying to live their lives while suffering through a uniquely intolerable situation. A lot of the time, it'll be funny. Some of the time... Well, here's an exclusive glimpse at Yvel's brilliant pencil work for issue one:

Anyway, great site! Keep it up! Buy ArchEnemies in April!
