The Week at the Curve
Belatedly wrapping up this week of March 6th, 2005, here's the recap of recent events and commentaries that shaped the world of the Curve.
Sides were taken this week in one of the liveliest series of DC versus Marvel caliber bouts I've seen on here:
Round #1: Hunter vs. Bloodhound Bashers
The week kicked off with a requiem by Chris Hunter for Dan Jolley's nixed book Bloodhound, which I never picked up myself. But I did enjoy his romp with Firestorm, and - being an enjoyer of Jolley - I certainly cringe with him at the book's departure from the racks.
Round #2: Crumb vs. Good Taste
This is of course an ongoing decades-long battle that R. will undoubtedly continue to come out on top of. The Guardian ran a tribute series this week to Mr. Crumb that painted his quirkiness and perversity in a very respectful light. I was glad to see them give the nod and even gladder to see an overseas perspective on his legacy.
Round #3: O'Shea vs. Poor Editorial Decisions
Tim slapped up this article of questionable merit from the Orlando Sentinel about the Boyles, fittingly awash in boils of wandering sentences and strange misfires of comparisons.
Round #4: Montes vs. Rodriguez
Let the Sin City film discussion begin as Jorge gets the ball rolling, decrying the color and general cinematic direction Robert Rodriguez has chosen for the Frank Miller adaptation. I'm staying at arms' length from this one until the full product hits theaters, though Rickey and Hisham both had their own 2 cents to throw in.
Round #5: [Warmoth vs. (Manga Fanboys vs. DC Comics)] vs. Carlson
The clear loser in this one definitely appears to be DC, who just isn't living up to expectations, let alone manga fandom with their series Tenjho Tenge, which has been blisteringly edited contrary to CMX's stated policy of delivering manga "100 percent the way the original Japanese creators want you to see it." If there's a salient point to this problem beyond a disagreement between fanboy expectation and CMX's failed promises, I have apparently missed it.
Never fear though, Curve Cadets. We'll all lick our wounds in the meantime and see you around for next week's recap. Same Curve time. Same Cure URL.
