Attack of the Manga Fanboys

On his site Pulpculture.net, Franklin Harris called some attention to DC's latest manga venture, which evidently isn't flying very well here in the States with purists. Also check out this site that's been set up to "report all edits made to the DC CMX version of Tenjho Tenge," a recently shipped title that has evidently not lived up to DC's promises.

CMX advertises its manga as being "100 percent the way the original Japanese creators want you to see it." And while it is true that CMX convinced Oh! great to sign off on the changes, that doesn't really equate to presenting the book the way Oh! great wanted readers to see it.

Harris notes that DC has a long way to go if they're going to please their manga savvy audience.

American fans, who had been awaiting CMX's English translation, were disappointed to find that the CMX version is heavily edited. According to fans who have seen the stories as they were published in Japan, CMX made more than 30 changes, covering up nudity and "panty shots," and tightly cropping a rape scene.

Though I really couldn't care too much less about the ordeal, I feel like DC's going to have to deal with the audience they're trying to sell to; and if that audience be manga fanboy/girldom, I wish them fun times trying to please.
