Spike TV awards show to honor horror, sci-fi -- and comics
Spike TV plans to follow in the footsteps of MTV, Nickelodeon, TV Land, ESPN and, well, just about every other cable network, by creating its own awards show.
This one may actually be interesting, though. The Detroit News reports that Spike's show will focus on horror and science fiction. Called Scream 2006 -- granted, not the most original title -- the awards will honor the best in film, TV, video games, music and comic books.
Yes, comic books.
Taking its cues from the MTV Movie Awards, Scream will include light-hearted categories such as "highest body count in a movie" and "best blood-curdling scream." There's a promise of more serious topics, though.
"There is so much to celebrate when you look to recent box-office successes from Silent Hill and Scary Movie 4 to television's Lost," Casey Patterson, Spike's senior vice president of event production and talent development, told the newspaper.
Scream 2006 will likely air in October.
The Blade TV series -- based on the movie franchise which, in turn, is based on the Marvel comics characters -- is set to debut on Spike in June.
