Made in Japan (by way of Endicott, N.Y.)
The Binghamton, N.Y., Press & Sun-Bulletin spotlights Made in Japan, a store in Endicott devoted to manga, anime and Japanese toys.
How devoted? It has more than 7,000 manga in stock.
"Right now, inventory is a little low," owner Casey Wales tells the newspaper. "At the end of the week is when we get our new shipments."
Wales goes toe-to-toe with competitors like Barnes & Noble by playing up the atmosphere, and by offering contests, raffles and low prices. He also provides old Atari and Nintendo games that customers can play for free.
"Once every two months we have a big day for our customers to come in and play video games and we do a cosplay costume event, which is a big thing in Japan," Wales said. "It is where you dress up like your favorite animé, rock idol or manga character."
