Willing and Sable

Newsarama shows off an image from IDW and Mike Grell's latest Jon Sable mini-series. originally slated to hit stands in March, the series has been pushed back to spring 2005.

It's really exciting to see the return of these classic '80s indie books, like GrimJack, Nexus and American Flagg!

Heck, even Gold Key veteran Magnus has made a comeback:



Now, like Tim, I was never a big fan of any of these properties (except Nexus, as noted in my previous post), but the idea that these big name creators were doing great stuff outside of the big two and making a living out of it gets me really excited about comics.

Over time, I've come to read up a bit Mike Gold, who edited a lot of great stuff for First Comics and DC Comics (including the previously mentioned Sable and Flagg!). The man had a great eye for talent, both for company-owned characters and creator-owned stuff. Check out First Comics and start picking up these reborn titles. Hopefully, it'll give life to new and older, overlooked series from the past.
