X-Fever: Mutants take the box office!

Reports are coming in that X-Men: The Last Stand brought in more than $44.5 million on Friday, the biggest Friday opening of all time (beating 2002's Spider-Man which also opened in May). It is on track to break the all-time Memorial Day weekend record, currently held by Shrek 2.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith holds the record for biggest opening day ever, as it grossed more than $50 million on a Thursday last year. For the complete "Friday at the movies" report, check out Show Biz Data.

So what does this mean for the film franchise? Are Ratner, Jackman, Stewart and the rest up for X4? Time will tell, mutant fans ... time will tell!
