The Week at the Curve
It was a great week to be a mutant, as the publicity for X-Men: The Last Stand kicked into high gear, and our favorite merry band of homo superiors appeared in Entertainment Weekly, Parade and all over the Web. No doubt this is just the beginning.
It was also a good week this week for comic book museums, as the Toy and Action Figure Museum in Oklahoma received a large donation, and The Comics Research Library acquired five Windsor McCay originals.
It wasn't such a hot week for superhero TV shows, as all the major networks announced their fall schedules. While Heroes received a green light from NBC, CBS smacked down Ultra while the Aquaman show sank at The CW. Too bad; the trailer made Aquaman look like it might actually be watchable (of course, I'm partial to anything with Ving Rhames).
It was a good week for video; in addition to the Aquaman trailer, fans were also treated to a new Superman Returns teaser on The O.C., a trailer for the Blade TV show hit the Web and a deleted scene from the original Star wars showed up on YourTube.
It wasn't such a good week for fun, critically acclaimed low-selling comic books, as both The Thing and Manhunter were canceled. Damn.
It was a great week for people who love lists, as our own Tom Bondurant offered comic book list makers the chance to vote for the 50 best DC characters. The polls are still open, but only for a short time, so if you haven't gotten your list to Tom yet, do it soon!
It was a bad week for people scared of clowns, particularly baby clowns. Thanks Kevin; I'll send you my therapy bills.
And lastly, it was a pretty big week for us here at the Curve. The good news is our traffic has increased a great deal over the last few months, almost doubling from April to May. The bad news was we surpassed our monthly bandwidth allocation yesterday, meaning the site went down for a short time last night. The great folks at Silver Bullet Hosting had us back up and running in no time, and we should be good to go for the foreseeable future. Thanks to everyone who has been stopping by the Curve on a regular basis. We know there are lots of great comic blogs out there to check out, so we appreciate you making the time to visit us.
