Five forgotten Tezuka strips discovered in U.S.
I missed this item this morning, so I'm glad Pata at Irresponsible Pictures didn't:Japan's Asahi Shimbun reports that five missing works by Astro Boy creator Osamu Tezuka have been discovered at the University of Maryland, among a collection of Japanese publications gathered by an American censorship unit after World War II.
According to Takeshi Tanikawa, the Waseda University professor who found them, the five comic strips were published in magazines in 1947 and 1948, but had been long forgotten. Often referred to as "the father of manga," Tezuka began his comic career in 1946.
"The newly discovered works, which show his enormous creative urge, offered a wide range of manga for children and adults," Minoru Kotoku, a producer at Tezuka Productions Co., told the newspaper. "With the discovery, I think most of blanks in his record of works are now filled."
