The Comics Journal names names in assault scandal

A few weeks ago the Friends of Lulu announced a fund for women in the comic industry who wish to pursue legal action in sexual assault cases. As the FOL's Ronee Garcia Bourgeois detailed in her Buzzscope column, the fund was set up after comic creator Taki Soma said she was sexually assaulted by someone in the comic industry.

The Comic Journal posted a story this week on their website about the incident, publicly naming Soma's perpetrator:

As much as organizers have worked quickly to research the legalities of the fund and place it on firm ground, it's hard to deny that it has come about out of desperation; it is the result of a profound wish to have something good come out of the sordid misery that in tiny increments and one unretractable leap has overtaken the lives of at least two people.

One of these people is Taki Soma, a 30-year-old Minneapolis-based beginning comics artist (Silent Forest for Silent Devil Productions, The West Side for Redoubt Studio). The other person is Charles Brownstein, who as the devoted and energetic executive director of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, is a highly respected figure in the comics industry.

Newsarama posted a statement from Charles Brownstein this morning:

Though I'd hoped that the allegations brought against me would not have been aired in a court of public opinion, circumstances are such that I must provide my perspective. I did not come forward sooner out of respect for Taki, as I didn't want to cause her any more hurt than I already, unintentionally, had. Right now, unfortunately, there is too much poisonous speculation circling about the incident, so I feel that the record must be set straight.
