Podcasters auction off Superman comics to benefit Electronic Freedom Foundation
Readers of Adventures of Superman #648 might remember this panel, drawn by Karl Kerschl:
They also might have wondered what the heck those logos meant on the looters' jackets and hat. The logos represent three "high tech" podcasts -- TWiT (This Week in Tech), Hak.5 and commandN.
Leo Laporte, who hosts the podcast TWiT, has information up on his blog about a charity auction that he and his fellow "looters" put together for the Electronic Freedom Foundation. From the auction listing:
You don’t have to be a fan of the Man of Steel to be interested in this particular auction. Issue 648 of Adventures of Superman (Mar 06) came with an added bonus for fans of technology: on page 20, you’ll notice three characters up to no good, all wearing clothing with the logos of three of today’s most popular tech podcasts, TWiT (www.twit.tv), commandN (www.commandn.tv) and Hak.5 (www.hak5.org).
During a recent taping of Call For Help, members from all three podcasts were together in the studio. We figured this might be a good opportunity to raise a bit of money for our favourite digital rights foundation, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (www.eff.org), so we got eight copies of the issue signed by the podcasters, and we’re making them available to the top eight bidders. The signatures:
Amber MacArthur (commandN, TWiT)
Darren Kitchen (Hak.5)
Leo Laporte (TWiT)
Mike Lazazzera (commandN)
Wess Tobler (Hak.5)
As a bonus, the top three bidders will also have their copies signed by Alli from Hak.5, and will get a small assortment of TWiT swag, including a pocket protector signed by Leo, Patrick Norton, Kevin Rose and THE WOZ. We’ve numbered the batch of eight in a "limited edition", with the top bidder getting 1/8, second bidder getting 2/8, and so forth.
"THE WOZ" is Steve Wozniak, one of the founders of Apple.
[Thanks, Steph!]
