Seattle Reads Persepolis
Kim Thompson over at FLOG! gives an update on this year's pick for the annual Seattle Reads event:
Every year Seattle has a "Seattle Reads" program, during which much of the city endeavors to read the same book and then attend discussion groups, watch presentations, and so on -- a wonderful community experience or a horrible exercise in group think, depending on your inclinations. This year, in what is certainly a benchmark for comics, Marjane Satrapi's PERSEPOLIS was chosen.
The Seattle Public Library has more info on the event, which originated in 1998:
Each year the Washington Center for the Book at The Seattle Public Library hosts a major author for a series of free programs. Everyone is invited to participate in "Seattle Reads" (formerly known as "If All of Seattle Read the Same Book") by reading the featured selection, joining in a book group discussion and attending the programs.
Marjane Satrapi will visit Seattle March 1-4. More info
