Bloggity-Blog-Blog-Blog on Aquaman
Laura Tegan of Bloggity-Blog-Blog-Blog is a big Aquaman fan. It's obvious. Go check out her Aquaman site.
Anyway, she's been sifting through her review pile in an effort to catch up, and all are definitely worth a read. But this particular one caught my eye. I was a big fan of Aquaman during two specific periods: Peter David's excellent 90s run and recently, Will Pfeifer's short stint on the title. So, So here's what she had to say about Aquaman #32:
Aquaman #32: 'The Shade of Things To Come': Why? Why has this book become so unreadable in just a few short months?
Ok, looking at this as objectively as I can... the colorist needs to be told that when a character is making a point about his skin being darker than everyone else's, then he really should have skin that is visibly darker than everyone else's, not skin that is almost the same shade. The artwork is still fantastic, but the story needs another edit. I don't buy the whole Progene garbage. It's silly. And shoehorning Manta into the tale (with an earring??!??) also seems a bit much. I have to admit that the backstory as to why he's getting involved is better than we've seen in the past, though. And Koryak... *sigh*. I want to like this, but I've seen precious little to enjoy.
