Getting to Know TGC: Hisham Zubi

I guess I’ve been posting enough that I really should make one of these brief introductions.

My name is Hisham Zubi. Its an arab name. Depending on who you ask, Hisham can mean generous, gentleman, or "one who shares his bread". Zubi is a simplified version of Zu'abi, a large family in the Levant. My father was a Palestinian-Arab from Israel. My mother was a farm-girl from Eastern Oregon. I also grew up in Oregon, near the town of La Grande. After High School, I earned my Undergraduate and Law degrees from the University of Oregon. Go Ducks!

You could say that I’m a lawyer, but I’m still in the process of figuring out if that’s what I want to do with my life or not. In the mean time, I take more classes, tutor, hang out with friends, and make long-distance phone calls to my mom and sister in Nazareth to check up on my niece and nephew.

Right now, I live in Portand, Oregon. I really like this city a lot. It’s got good bookstores. A nice downtown. Lots of music venues. Good people. A beautiful waterfront. I don’t even mind that it rains all the time, it’s a lot milder than La Grande was.

As for comics, I remember getting comics before I knew how to read. It was something my parents got me to keep me quiet when we went shopping. Later on, my comic buying became more sporadic because I lived in an area that didn’t have a lot of places to buy them. I guess I'm still trying to catch up with comics I missed the first time around.

Early childhood favorites were mostly centered around Superman. As time as has gone on (I’m 28) my tastes have broadened. I’d like to think that I’m still broadening my tastes in comics. Some of my favorite creators would include George Perez, Joe Sacco, James Robinson, Jim Lee, Grant Morrison, Alan Moore, Alan Davis, Jerry Ordway, Warren Ellis, Brian Bendis, Neal Adams, David Mack, Gene Colon, Barry Windsor-Smith, Curt Swan, Brian Azzarello, Gary Trudeau, Bill Watterson, and several more.

Its been fun making contributions to The Great Curve. I look forward to making more. Take Care.
