New Marvel posters manage to motivate no one
I love inspirational posters. They're such a wonderfully clueless attempt at making the world a better place, one 18 x 24 at a time. The office I work at has at least one in every room and sometimes, when a meetings is running long, I stare at them and wonder just who exactly thought a particular poster was a winning idea. Suffice to say, I prefer the motivational posters from Despair, Inc. even more. They strip away every convention in the format, making you laugh at the dirty underbelly of the truth.
I bring this up because it turns out even Marvel has decided to get in on the act.

Yes, Marvel Motivational Posters. Is there anything more bizarre out there? Do they really imagine some CEO, desperate to battle the endless number of Dilbert comics his cubicle jockeys have been posting up in the break room, would suddenly decide, "Forget the multi-ethnic group of hands inspiring teamwork. What these employees need is the wisdom of Elektra!"
The worst part is they're not very good. They're pretty much second rate inspirational quotes someone found thumbing through a copy of Bartlett's and then arbitrarily assigning them a popular character. Oh sure. You've got the requisite Spider-Man quote. But really, hasn't Toby done enough with that message?
It is nice to know they're catering to everyone, though. Even a certain President.
Sharing is caring, so I should point out that I found this on one of my favorite blogs, Boing Boing," which itself linked to some uninspirational parody posters.
And, because I haven't posted anything in a while (and my last subject, the website dicked out on me), here's a bonus link for you all to enjoy:
