Unemployed Robots
Over at Wizard Universe, there's a huge interview with Pat Lee by Ben Morse. While no mention was made about the oodles of freelancers that are still owed money, Morse managed to put together an interesting Q&A that touched on Lee and Dreamwave's financial status, the potential new owners of the Transformers comic book publishing rights and signing up with Marvel were tossed around. Of note is what, if any, involvement Lee or other ex-Dreamwavers will have in conceptual art for the upcoming Transformers feature film.
How does this setback affect your rumored involvement with the Transformers movie, if at all?
I'm sure that the producers of the movie will find great designers and illustrators for the project. So far, I am unsure of my potential involvement with the movie, althoughit would be exciting if I were involved. I would hope I do get involved to some capacity. [Producer] Tom DeSanto has a great vision of the movie and I'm positive that whoever he decides to help him with that vision will be a good decision.
After all that went down at Dreamwave, including not paying creators for their work and then removing them from their books, Lee paints a very pretty picture of the relationships at Dreamwave. He also mentions that he wouldn't mind going exclusive with a company. Any thoughts on where he'll end up? Do we really need to see more Superman/Batman from Mr. Lee?
