Ed Brubaker goes exclusive with Marvel
From today's press release...
“After years and years on exclusive at the competition, I wasn’t planning to be anything but freelance for a long time,” reports Brubaker. “But Joe and Dan simply made me an offer that was too good to refuse.” The agreement between the writer and Marvel is of a very special sort, one that Brubaker seems highly pleased with. “It offers me the chance to work on characters I’ve loved since childhood, as well as unprecedented freedom to finish all my prior commitments and to do creator-owned work, either at Marvel or elsewhere.” Brubaker is currently penning his debut series with Marvel, Captain America.
Personally, I'll miss Brubaker's DC work (well, what would have been his future work - apparently his contract has nothing against his current work, such as Sleeper with Sean Phillips), as it has always been top notch. But his run on Captain America with Steve Epting has kicked off to a hell of a bold start with just the first couple of issues (the first issue's cliffhanger alone...). He has me reading the character for the first time in a long while, so I can't complain here.

It should definitely be interesting to see what other Marvel properties he gets his hands on, and what he does with them.
Oh, and according to Lying in the Gutters, Brubaker declared his Marvel exclusivity while at the DC writers' panel for the Emerald City ComiCon? Hahaha... NICE.
Catch Brubaker and Epting's latest issue (the third) of Captain America at your local comic shop this Wednesday.
