Jim Lee, over at his blog, has opened the door for pros and amateurs alike to take a stab at inking his pencils. Here, we have veteran inker and all-around nice guy Andy Smith taking a shot, and Jim's comments:
Here is another pro doing his thing on my pencils. Many of you know Andy Smith's work from CrossGen but he has worked for every major publisher and pencils as well as inks...Andy has a very smooth line, most likely all applied with brush, which has a real luscious, rich feel to it. Andy takes the linework to black quickly for a more graphic look and organizes a lot of the hatching into more orderly patterns which gives the overall appearance a very slick, professional look.
I guess that means he did a good job. Kudos, Andy! I'm curious to see what other inkers took Jim up on his challenge. And in closing, Jim takes a friendly jab at Kevin Smith:
Kevin Smith got it all wrong. Inkers aren't tracers...they're TV sets.
