T. Townshend quits comics: can you blame the guy?
Tim Townshend, a well known inker best remembered for his inks over the likes of Joe Madureira and Chris Bachalo, has announced in an interview with Adelaide Comics that upon completing his pending Marvel assignments, he will leave the industry to pursue and advertisitng career:
I recently made the decision to step away from comics later this year once I’m done with my obligations at MARVEL. I arrived at this decision for several reasons. One reason is financial. I just work way too hard for as little money as there is to be made in inking these days. I’m faced with either compromising my artistic integrity and hacking out two or three pages a day (which I won’t do) or finding other options. I’ve had a plan for a while now to get in to the advertising business with a friend of mine who has built a great company and has more work than he can handle on his own these days. I like the idea of A) working with my best friend B) Working 1/5 as hard and C) making 5 times the money.
It's a shame to lose a talent, but I can't say I really blame him for following the money. A man's gotta eat, you know?
