This sounds like a lot of fun
Jim Lee has come up with a pretty interesting twist on Fantasy and Rotisserie Baseball:
For those of you whose eyes glazed over--let me tie this somehow back into comics. In baseball, rotisserie league baseball, or fantasy baseball is all the rage. In this game, you act as managers, draft from a pool of real life, existing players, filling in the various positions, and then compete against other managers in a league.
As the players compile real life statistics playing for their real life teams, you the manager, receive fantasy league points for each of the players you selected to be part of your fantasy team. Points are usually allocated for players with the highest batting average, most home runs, or for pitchers, most strikeouts, lowest earned run average.
How does this tie into comics? Well, my idea is this: Fantasy Comics Publisher(FCP). If I knew how to code, this would be a cinch to set up. Say 6 people get together and think they are better at spotting and publishing talent than say those at DC, Marvel or even WildStorm (forget that!).
Each fantasy publisher would draft (sign to an exclusive) from a pool of real life writers and artists and characters. Each month, based on how their signed talent performed on the Diamond Top 100 sales rankings, each publisher would receive $ales points. You could base $ales on both retail ranking and dollar ranking.
Whoever has the most $ales over a season (say one year), would be king FCP.
The categories (positions) each publisher would have to choose a talent for could be:
1-Monthly writer (you get $ales from every book the writer works on)
2-Monthly artist (you get $ales from every book the artist works on)
3-Special Projects writer (would cover Graphic Novels, minis).
4-Special Projects artist
5-Cover artist
To beef up the game and field a 10 player publishing house, I would suggest having two slots for each position.
So an All-Star lineup would be:
MW: Geoff Johns
MW2: Brian Bendis
MA: John Cassaday
MA2: Andy Kubert
SPW: Darwyn Cooke
SPW2: Brad Meltzer
SPA: Rags Morales
SPA2: Terry Dodsen
CA: Mike Turner
CA2: Adam Hughes
You could sign or release, trade or move around your talent to maximize your $ales. Obviously knowing which talents were going to work on which books would be of great benefit.
To spice things up, I would also say any time a book got reviewed, either pro or con, at say, Heroes Realm, the Fourth Rail, or Pipeline, each FPC would get some bonus points for 'critical acclaim.'
Any web wizards want to give it a go?
