Manga Man Mark Makes His Marvel

Welcome Marvel's newest Senior Editor Mark Paniccia--accomplished fellow being brought over from from Tokyopop to lead the charge for Marvel into the still yet-to-be-conquered manga and teen graphic novel markets.

“The manga category continues to be one of the most explosive growth segments of the comic industry. Having a person the caliber of Mark join Marvel really gives us one of the leading visionaries in the genre,” said Dan Buckley, Publisher, Marvel Comics. “We feel teaming Mark with the renowned Marvel Universe gives us the opportunity to truly take charge and further innovate the comic book market.”

It's easy to see why manga is such a tantalizing piece of market pie for Marvel and DC, as the latter looks to expand their CMX line and Marvel looks to regroup yet again while they figure out how to fashion an appealing manga book. The move certainly makes sense, but it's still going to be a long uphill climb as far as I can see.
