Not Easy Being Green

We here at The Great Curve tend to ignore what's going on in Hollywood when it comes to comic books characters. But this article on Eonline about Martian Manhunter is quite interesting.

As movie projects featuring founding members of comic book land's Justice League of America ramp up, the green-skinned detective from our solar system's fourth planet can't get arrested in Hollywood.

E went to Mark Evanier for his opinion on J'Onn's status in Hollywood and in comics:

"He was just a space filler," Evanier says.
Evanier figures Martian Manhunter only got into the JLA because he was a superhero at a time when DC Comics didn't have a whole lot of superheroes. That, and he could fly.

Check out the link for more information on MM and some of the other DC movie properties.

On another note, thought, why do you think that Martian Manhunter hasn't been able to support his own series for more than a few years? He's been around forever and is still prominent, yet no one really wants to read about his individual adventures. I read somewhere a while ago that someone thought he didn't sell well because he's green and people can't relate to that. Thoughts?
