The Week at the Curve

When December arrives and people start making lists of the top news stories of the year, I'm betting this week will have produced at least two or three of the stories on those lists.

One of them no doubt will be the Soma/Brownstein/Mid-Ohio Con story, which saw a lot of coverage this week on the 'net. The Comic Reporter has a pretty good list going of all the coverage, opinions and message board discussions about the case.

Another big story could be Marvel's Civil War, the first issue of which was released this week, or maybe DC's Infinite Crisis, which wrapped up this week. We talked about both series some in Can't Wait for Wednesday, while Tom Bondurant gave a more thorough analysis both before they came out and after. It was difficult not to throw a rock at the mainstream news media and not hit a Civil War story, as detailed in this post. Marvel was also in the news as they released their first-quarter results.

Speaking of mainstream media, Free Comic Book Day received its share of ink this week. We spoke with several pros, retailers and fans about what they were looking forward to on Free Comic Book Day, and also provided a couple of updates from CAPE, an event held in Dallas in celebration of comics' big day.

Daniel Clowes has been hitting the interview circuit for his new film Art School Confidential, and Shane, Kevin and I posted on a few of the stories.

The Great Curve welcomed aboard a new contributor this week, James Vicari, who filled us in on the resurrection of the 100 Bullets video game. Speaking of video games, I chatted with Konami about the Silent Hill Experience interactive comic book for the PSP.

And lastly, it was a great week for preview art. Wildcard Productions sent us preview pages from their Gumby comic, coming in July, and we also saw a glimpse of Marvel's Agent of Axis mini-series and the Neil Gaiman/John Romita Jr. Eternals mini-series--another story of the year candidate? I guess we'll find out in December.
