Manhunter: 'the best comic-book title on the stands'?

My new favorite superhero comic, DC's Manhunter, gets a mainstream boost this morning from Jerome Maida of the Philadelphia Daily News, who calls it, "arguably the best comic-book title on the stands."

Hey, he said arguably. He's allowed a little hyperbole, right?

"Writer Marc Andreyko took a character that could have been a cheap imitation of Marvel's Punisher or Daredevil and created a character that is presently more interesting than either of them," Maida writes.

He continues: "Manhunter is a book that has it all -- a plan, a juicy supporting cast, mystery, suspense, action and romance -- topped off by a character who is a kick-butt heroine in costume and the most interesting portrayal of a woman in comics, perhaps ever."

Yes, just a little hyperbole.
