20 Questions For You All For the 5/10 Comic Week
I am sure there are some spoilers involved in the following 20 questions. Feel free to answer or not - some of them ARE rhetorical, after all...
1. Did #1 make you think the next 51 will be good?
2. Who is your pick for who the guy running around in the Daredevil costume in Daredevil is?
3. What's the worst joke you ever read in an Archie comic book?
4. Who's your all-time favorite Spider-Man supporting cast member?
5. Which dead Spider-Man supporting cast member would you bring back if you could (and it wouldn't be dorky)?
6. If you applied the same ratio of improvement in art from Nightwing #119 to Nightwing #120 to Watchmen...how freaking awesome would the art in Watchmen be?
7. Do you think Starfox uses his powers to make women have sex with him?
8. Is there a character in Girls that you don't want to have killed?
9. Which L.E.G.I.O.N. member (outside of Dox) did you like the best?
10. Will Kyle Rayner ever be involved with a woman who doesn't die?
11. Do you think "fanfic" is much of an insult of a comic writer? It seems too nebulous to me.
12. Do the Skrulls count as "humanoid"?
13. Do you think that any new characters invented for X-Men 3 will be worked into the comics?
14. Do you like Joystick in Thunderbolts?
15. Have you been enjoying Jaime Hernandez' strip in the New York Times more than Chris Ware's?
LIGHTNING ROUND!!
16. Who would win in a fight: Jack Staff or Union Jack?
17. What's your favorite alien race in the Marvel Universe?
18. How about the DC Universe?
19. Who is your favorite of the new X-Men introduced in Deadly Genesis?
20. Who do you like better - Artie or Leech?
10 Comments:
Re: No. 1: No, it didn't. I'll probably take a look at the TPB when they come out, but at $2.50x52=$130, I want a better bang for the buck. Kudos to them for trying the weekly thing -- that's a good idea for an event. Just make the event worthwhile.
1. Yes.
6. There was improvement? I must've missed it.
10. No.
11. No.
1. I'm hoping the rest won't be so scattershot.
2. D-Man.
4. Mary Jane
5. I don't know how you could avoid the dorky factor. Maybe Madame Web, as a reincarnated teenager with an attitude, pierced eyebrow and chain smoking as she tells Peter to stop being such a dumb ass.
Which would be dorky.
7. Yes. I think Starfox has the potential to be ever bit as villainous (though in his own way) as his brother Thanos. One day he will wake up and realize he can make people do whatever he wants, and use it for more than just a quick lay.
8. Nope. I stopped reading it because none of the characters were appealing.
11. What's the difference between writing fanfic and writing comics, besides the paycheck? I was reading an interview with Bendis yesterday, and he talked about how he's been creating Spider-Man stories since he was a kid. At what point do you go from being a fanfic writer to an honest-to-gosh pro (besides when the first paycheck arrives)?
12. Two legs, two arms, a head ... check.
13. It's not so much an if as a when.
14. Yes, very much so. This most recent issue was really good.
17. & 18. So who do you think has the better aliens, Marvel or DC? Marvel has the Kree, Skrulls, Shi'ar and ... um, any others that are featured prominently? While DC seems to have a wider, more developed group. I think DC does a better job with the space stuff than Marvel, while Marvel has better made-up Earth-bound locales (like Wakanda, Latveria and the Savage Land).
19. Professor Ex-mutant.
20. Leech. If you team him up with the Punisher, they could take out every mutant in the Marvel Universe. Think about it.
1. No. Wasn't very compelling to me, and the Booster stuff in particular was treading over an aspect of the character that's a grease stain where the horse corpse used to be.
2. Whoever it is, it'll probably confuse the hell out of everyone.
4. Mary Jane!
5. None. Dead Means Dead in The DCU- Dan Coyle Universe. Unless we're talking about a certain Thanagarian.
6. Why is everyone yapping about how great the art is in the new issue? The layouts are TERRIBLE.
7. No, but then Dan Slott couldn't criticize fans for liking him, could he?
9. Stealth.
10. Not as long as Ron Marz is in comics.
12. Yes.
13. Probably not, if the buzz on the film is that it's a disaster.
14. Yes. The story in the new issue was a bit cliched but Nicieza's doing something with her, and making her likable, so there's that.
17. Kree
18. Thanagar, or, failing that if the planet's been wiped out of continuity, Rann.
19. None; I'd prefer a mutant that would stop writers from digging up 30 year old stories and then whining that their new ideas don't get any play.
20. Leech.
"At what point do you go from being a fanfic writer to an honest-to-gosh pro (besides when the first paycheck arrives)? "
Probably when you start working with an editor from the company who can, at least in theory, provide some guidance.
1. No.
2. Paul Jenkins.
3. I try not to think about them.
4. JJ.
5. Baby May
6. Buh?
7. Of course he does.
8. That implies I would read it.
9. ...
10. Hopefully not.
11. Well, most fanfic is garbage, so, perhaps. But then, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was what we'd call "good fanfic."
12. Yeah. Well, in default shape.
13. What new characters?
14. Who?
15. I don't read the NYTimes.
16. Jack Staff, mofo.
17. The Colonizers!
18. Do the New Gods count?
19. Ugh.
20. Leech, baby. Leech.
4. Robbie Robertson
7. No
11. No
12. Yes
14. Yes
17. Technarch
18. Braniac's race (can't spell it)
19. Darwin
20. Leech
1. No idea. Didn't dig the first one that much, but it might have just been all first-issue-y.
2. Ronin.
4. J. Jonah. Jameson
5. Gwen Stacy. Probably take a total reboot, but what the hell.
7. No. Duh.
11. It's all fanfic. You're writing Spider-man, you're writing Lee/Ditko/Romita fanfic. If you're basically playing around in someone else's conceptual playground, it's fanfic.
12. Sure. Two arms, two legs... most of the time.
13. I hope so.
15. I couldn't make either of them download.
16. Jack Staff! He's way awesomer.
17. ...Skrulls, probably.
18. Whatever planet Ch'p is from. Or else the G'nortians.
20. Artie.
1. No. But I had no belief it would be good to begin with.
2. Bullseye.
4. Robbie Robertson
5. Ben Reilly (as the Scarlet Spider)
7. NO! Now let us never speak of this again.
10. All signs point to no.
11. I recognize that it's meant as an insult, but I've read some decent fanfic, so not to me.
12. At least as much as Joe Quesada.
13. I hope not.
14. Sure, why not?
17. The Badoon
18. Tamaranians I suppose.
19. Darwin, because I'm sure he's just the character we need to wipe out everything that's happened in the Marvel Universe since Diassembled started.
20. Artie.
6. They both sucked. #120 may have even been worse.
15. I haven't seen Hernandez' stuff, but I hate Ware's stuff. He's very talented, but his narrative is too much of a pretentious, navelgazing northeast bobo vibe to me. It looks like something a Whole Foods shopper would orgasm to.
