Can't Wait for Wednesday

Another week, another column on what comics are coming out this week. It's like a vicious circle. This week Marvel follows the Yellow Brick Road to Civil War, DC resurrects Blue Beetle and I contemplate how I can afford my weekly stash, trades like Banana Sunday and Lady Snowblood, and the $70 Alias Omnibus, which will likely sit on my Amazon wishlist until my birthday. So it goes.

I thought I would mix things up a little bit and ask some of my fellow TGC contributors to share their top picks for the week. So let's hear from Tom and Michael ...

Tom Bondurant's Pick of the Week:

ACTION COMICS #837. Part 1 of "Up, Up and Away" would have been an intriguing start to any Superman story, and I have high hopes that this week's Part 2 will be just as good.

Michael May's Pick of the Week:

FANTASTIC FOUR #536: I'm really getting into this whole CIVIL WAR thing. I'm surprised at how many Marvel books I'm buying lately as INFINITE CRISIS dies down. (Yes, I realize that summarizes everything that's wrong with the comics industry.) So, it's a toss up between FF and the ILLUMINATI SPECIAL, but it's been a long time since I read an FF comic, so I'm looking forward to that. Special mention for THE SURROGATES #5, which would've been my pick this week if I hadn't realized that I somehow missed #4. Hopefully, the comic shoppe still has copies of that so that I can get both issues. The first three were better than anything Marvel and DC are doing.

JK's Pick of the Week:

GODLAND #9: In issue #8, which is available in its entirety over at Newsarama, we learned the secret origins of the universe. In this issue, our hero, Adam Archer, considers what he learned over a bowl of Cosmic Crunch. Can he deal? Will he be able to go on? And why can't I find Cosmic Crunch cereal at my local grocery store? While his Marvel and DC work leaves me a bit cold sometimes, I absolutely love Joe Casey when he does his own twisted, over-the-top stuff, like Automatic Kafka, Intimates, and this.

So what are you looking forward to this week? Check out the Diamond shipping list for Wednesday and let us know by posting a comment below.

All-Star Superman was awesome! Samson? Atlas? Dinosaurs who escaped extencition by burrowing underground?

Grant Morrison should write all comics.
