Comic legends in the mainstream press
The Fort Wayne News-Sentinel has a story today on Joe Kubert. He talks about Sgt. Rock, his kids and his thoughts on today's comic books:
"I don't think there's enough concentration on what started the whole comic-book business," he said. "And that is telling a story. Telling a story with pictures, telling a story so that it's clear, that's discernible, that's dramatic, so a reader can follow it. And I think too many times that doesn't happen."
Meanwhile, the Springfield News Sun attempts to list the top ten comics by Stan Lee:
10. “Fantastic Four” Annual No. 3, 1965.
Lee wrote some pretty campy stuff in his day, but this takes the cake.
The wedding cake, that is.
Stan marries off two of the Fab Four, Reed and Sue, in one of the first true comic book events.
The guest list includes a who’s who of heroes — and a cavalcade of gate-crashing villains.
“Mebbe you two shoulda just eloped,” remarks the Thing.
