Color-Coded Spidey
Colorist Morry Jay Hollowell, whose work has appeared in Marvel Knights 4, Ultimate Secret and CrossGen's Meridian, answers his own question, "Why can't Spidey be colored as a spider?" over at Gutter Zombie:
Says Hollowell: It's not that I dislike the Iron-Man designed suit. I like it. I just thought I'd play around with the colors ...

Dear Morry Hollowell,
Please print this off and affix it to your monitor:
YOU CAN'T POLISH A TURD.
Respectfully yours,

The black widow is actually one of the duller spiders. There's a big tarantula species which is bright blue. Using the black widow's color scheme shows a lack of imagination (or research).
Also, I believe it's only the female widow which looks like that.
