Can't Wait for Wednesday

It's hard to believe that January is almost over. Heck, I'm still getting used to writing "2006" on my checks, and I just took down my Christmas tree this past weekend. I guess time flies when you're having fun, and this week looks like it's shaping up to be not only a fun week for comics, but an educational one as well.

For instance, IDW's 30 Days Of Night: Dead Space #1 answers the age-old science question about who would win in a fight, an astronaut or a vampire. Meanwhile, Speakeasy Comics and Rich Johnston bring us the story of Superman in 17th century rural Italy with the debut of Flying Friar, which is based on a true story. And if you need a reason to stay off the drugs and stay in school, check out Exterminators #2 ... it features one of the worst overdose scenes that I can remember.

There are also plenty of first issues (like Marvel's Underworld and Nick Fury: Peacemaker minis, and Dark Horse's Hellboy: Makoma), specials (like the Rann-Thanagar War special from DC and several Valentine's Day specials from Marvel) and trades (House of M, Lucifer, City of Tomorrow, Angel:The Curse and the second volume of Bluesman from NBM) to keep things interesting. Plus, if you like words without pictures, Stephen King's The Cell comes out this week. My pick of the week this time, though, is in honor of National Gorilla Suit Day, which is tomorrow ... Y the Last Man #42, which features a spotlight on everyone's favorite monkey, Ampersand. And yeah, I realize that monkeys and gorillas are two different things entirely, but you catch my drift.
