John Byrne appears in today's Funky Winkerbean, as a witness in a trial against a comic shop owner who supposedly sold "pornography":

I like how the members of his forum ask if he has prior approval to his dialogue in the strip and if he's going to get to keep the originals of the strips he appears in.
My perception is that Byrne agreed to appear in the strip out of friendship, but his own fans seem to anticipate that he'd need to maintain some kind of control over it.
