The Blind Hero

I just saw the DVD of the movie Ray, the story of Ray Charles. It's a good movie and Jamie Foxx's portrayal of the late singer was spot on. The film celebrates the rise of his career while touching on darker themes such as the death of his little brother, drug addiction, and his shortcomings as a family man.

There are no comic connections to this film that I know of, but there is a scene that would put the makers of Daredevil to shame. In a flashback, young Ray has just gone blind. He's in a panic, but his mother refuses to help him because she wants him to become self sufficient. As the scene unfolds, young Ray starts to use his other senses to understand the world around him. He hears a passing carriage and a kettle boiling. He feels the heat of a fireplace. Eventually he's able to navigate around his home and can even sense his silent mother.

I doubt that Matt Murdock or Charles McNider could have handled themselves any better, and also do a decent version of "Georgia On My Mind".
