Kandora pulls a Beckett

The Beat is reporting that one-time rookie publisher Kandora will be backtracking a bit and releasing some titles via Speakeasy.

Over at the Kandora forum, Kandora writer C. Edward Sellner spills the beans in response to this anonymous post:

as has been said on other threads here Kandora is releasing through SpeakEasy comics later this year.

Barbarossa is going to be released when it can along with Jadefire but only until issue #4.

Savage World and Monarch of Manhattan will be monthlies released by Speakeasy. If sales and profit merit it then following issues of Barbarossa and Jadefire could happen.

Buy and support Monarch and Savage World. This will help ensure many great stories to come of the comics that have already been released.

Sellner's response:

Yes, everyone! Please do help support the Savage World and Monarch launches from Speakeasy! We will be releasing plenty of PR leading into their resolicitation and launch later this year.

I certainly hope that they will find an audience that can support them as ongoing titles! We are trying a four issue arc first to gauge reaction, but the books will still be at 32 pages of story and art, no ads, and now be priced the same as many standard 22 page books!

As Heidi notes at the end of her post, while this is a setback for Kandora, isn't Speakeasy popping up as a player in the publishing game? Let's start calling them Image Jr.

Holy Alex posting storm, Batman!

I'm just happy it's Speakeasy and not another upstart publisher that will go unnamed. :)

I'm going to be checking out some Speakeasy comics. It's been very interesting to see how they've expanded so much in recent months.
