The Week at the Curve

Week of June 5, 2005

So summer's here, and 2005 like the several years preceding it will be remembered as another blockbuster movie summer parading around the latest now in vogue comic-to-movie box office busters. Sin City was somewhat of a prelude to the battle between Batman Begins and Fantastic Four set to take place over the next two months. Personally, I'm putting all my stock in Chris Nolan to provide me with my favorite film of the summer, and whatever happens, both are bound to stir the praise and contempt of readers everywhere. Nevertheless, they're what the wider than comicdom public is seeing of comics now, and as Lea discussed her post about The Times, there are more than a few feathers getting ruffled.

As for Batman Begins, two of our fine contributors go the chance to sneak a screening of it before you, so see what great things await you in the words of Tim O'Shea and Dave Lewis.

In other posting this week, the Rann-Thanagar War persists, as do the rallying cries of blogs everywhere. Also, ponder comic culture and Newsarama along with Hisham and convention anxieties with Dave.

I look forward to coming back to write this friendly update to you next week after Batman Begins has been lauded as the greatest film success of the franchise and breaks a few records. Pleasant theater lines to you one and all.
