Message Board vs. Blog Comment Sections

Warren Ellis has been writing a column for PULSE for a period of time. The latest installment came out this past week.

When perusing it last night, I was struck at the lack of replies posted to the PULSE message board (at present there are two replies). I made a similar comment here about a Tom Spurgeon article that ran this week at PULSE as well. This is not meant to single out PULSE, long-time readers of my work know I'm a fan of the site and a friend of Jen Contino (heck I would not be in this biz, were it not for Jen).

But then this evening the lack of replies really hit me after I read Graeme McMillan's Fanboy Rampage post about Ellis' column. Graeme's entry generated 17 responses at his blog. Granted, many of them are not comments of substance...but Warren Ellis even posted at Graeme's site, but not at his own PULSE article.

What does this mean? Maybe nothing. Many people read news articles, it doesn't mean everyone has to post comments in response. It merely struck me as something worthy of note.
