Meanwhile...
The comic blogosphere seems to grow larger every day and just like comics, sometimes it's pretty easy to get a little lost. "Meanwhile..." will act as your map pointing out what interesting discussions are happening out there while you're reading the Great Curve.
Here we go again on our weekly trip across the blogosphere...
Inspiration
An article we recently linked to about how to get young boys to read has inspired Plok to come up with an answer that leads to an examination of the current comics market.
Meanwhile Scipio to wax poetic about dangling plot threads after Mike Sterling's previous post on the topic.
Kevins Korner
See, I spelled Korner with a K. I'm so klever. Ha! Anyway, Kevin came up with a brilliant idea for a series of posts this last week called Comic Book Girlfriend.
Top 5 Comics Creators
Chris Arrant is trying to get a consensus on who the top 5 creators working today are. Pop on over to his site and help him out. It looks like Grant Morrison, Paul Pope, and Chris Ware are in the lead right now.
Infinite Crisis in 30 Seconds
Chris' ISB never ceases to amaze. This synopsis of Infite Crisis is just beyond words.
Comic Book Urban Legends Halmark
Comic Should Be Good's Comic Book Urban Legends feature hit #50 last week with legends focusing on John Romita, Clark and Lois' marriage, and Venom.
Sex in Comics
A lot of people have been talking about Sexism or focusing on gender issues in comics lately it's led to some really good discussions. We'll start out with Kevin Church pointing out that even the JLA has to deal with sexual harrasment.
Kalinara picked up some latent sexism while reading the comic urban legends feature this week at Comics Should be Good. Not from the blog itself, but from the creation of Venom.
Ragnell discusses the use of rape in comics particularly focusing on She-Hulk and the Authority.
When Fangirls Attack! covers issues concerning women in comics and is one of the best linkblogs out there today.
A Public Service
As a public service to their readers the guys at 2 Guys Buying Comics have put out a response to all those people making fun of you for buying comics.
Kids and Comics
I'll just let these speak for themselves.
Size Matters goes to a 3rd Grade Art Show and Mark Fossen gets a suprise from his daughter which has to be the sweetest thing in the world.
Retcons and Replacements
DC has just finished their massive crossover which has cleaned up their universe. It's got Kalinara thinking about why some replacement or legacy characters seem to work and some don't and it's got Ragnell thinking about what all this retconing has actually done to Wonder Woman over the years.
While we're talking about DC and events, Jog got around to reviewing the first issue of 52. Give him a hand for graduating too.
Technology and Measurements
Polite Dissent tries to introduce a unit to measure continuity called a Geoff.
"Therefore, I am proposing a standardized unit for scoring comic book continuity. I suggest we call it the Geoff (abbreviated G). The standardized unit will be set as equal to Silver Age Batman. Therefore 1 Geoff (1G) is equal to the amount of continuity required to enjoy Silver Age Batman."
Yet Another Comics blog has a good idea and wants to institute a lot of Web 2.0 technologies to create Comics 2.0.
Odds and Ends
The Comics Reporter talks to The Fate of the Artist's Eddie Campbell.
The Image Comics series Phonogram has a blog.
Joshua Hale Fialkov interviews his colorist about Elk's Run.
Johnny Bacardi digs up some Doc Savage pulp goodness.
New redesigns up at Project Rooftop.
The Comic Treadmill list Aquaman's Finny Friends.
Illustration Blog of The Week
We're going to revisit a past illustration blog this week and take a look at the recent redesign of Illustration Friday, which is now searchable by category and contains tons of other handy features.
