Can't Wait for Wednesday
Another week of "big event" first issues, as Marvel's Annihilation event continues with Super Skrull #1, and Infinite Crisis spills into the Battle for Bludhaven. The former Demo crew also have a busy week planned for your local comic shop (and my wallet), as the latest issues of DMZ and American Virgin are released, and The Tourist graphic novel finally sees the light of day.
Let's hear from some of my fellow posters on what they're looking forward to this week ...
Tom Bondurant's Pick of the Week
Two weeks ago I picked Action Comics, so while I still like the storyline I probably shouldn't pick Superman #651. Therefore, I'm going with Firestorm #24. Stuart Moore and Jamal Igle have done a great job blending "classic" Firestorm lore with some new wrinkles. A close second (maybe even tied with Superman) would be Fantastic Four: First Family #2.
Chris Hunter's Pick of the Week
I'm going with Majestic #16. Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning and Neil Googe have crafted a fantastic sci-fi superhero adventure series that will be ending all too soon with #17. It's a shame, but I'm glad that I've been there since the beginning.
Stephanie Chan's Pick of the Week
Archie #565 - Mrs. Grundy catches Archie reading Manga in class, and his punishment is to write a 500 word composition on the subject. I look forward to seeing what Archie learns about Manga. Awesome! Archie Andrews goes otaku! Maybe he'll end up like one of those kids in the book stores that sit on the floor all day and read Manga.
JK's Pick of the Week
My pick is Boneyard #21 by Richard Moore, each issue of which is genuinely funny and usually touching at the same time. It's a black and white book from NBM that stars an ordinary guy who inherited a graveyard haunted by a cast of likeable spooks.
Shane Bailey's Pick of the Week
I'm going to choose Desolation Jones #6. This is the best of Warren Ellis' current work with an interesting cast of characters and a plot with lots of strange twists. Throw in beautiful (but grotesque when it needs to be) art from J.H. Williams III and it's a lock for pick of the week.
So what do you think looks good this week? Take a look at the Diamond shipping lists and let us know.
