Ground zero for online manhwa

According to this piece in The Korea Times today, the South Korean government is starting to take notice of the burgeoning industry of online manhwa.

"Like Japan as powerhouse of print comics, we wish to become suzerain in online comics genre," said Park Si-young, an official at [the state-run Korea Culture & Content Agency].

This sentiment has sparked KOCCA's 600 million won subsidization of comics-related sites plans to publish a comprehensive industry guidebook this year. An example they cite of interest in the $43 million industry include Kang Full's online comic "Timing" available through www.daum.net last Oct. 28.

On that day, the page view exceeded 3 million, crashing the site's server.
