Return imminent
"JON SABLE: BLOODTRAIL #1 Ashcan
By Mike Grell
April 2005 release from IDW
Jon Sable has been lingering in denial, and burning with a hatred and need to avenge the losses he has endured. He is tormented by drink, and by the ghosts of his past. On the way in his path of self destruction, he helps others, completing amazing tasks almost unconsciously. His work is fueled by a need for justice, and a need for money. Mike Grell is a hunter, and his use of the hunting motif in the work Jon Sable is both well done, and poignant....I do not assume that Jon Sable is a must read 80's character, or that Mike Grell is himself necessarily still the best or most popular creative talent. But having said that... I think the market could stand to see more titles from tried and true creative talents, and Grell is one of those still able to produce.
Of the characters that might deserve to return to their own books? Many, Badger, Nexus, Black Lightning, Scout, and the Black Terror ala Smith and Dixon's take.
Of the creative talents that deserve to return? So many, the list is beyond my ability to list. Chief among those I would love to see a lot more work from: Bill Loebs, Dave Cockrum, Tony Isabella and Doug Moench.
So where are they? With so many titles out there surely there must be room for the tried and true eh?
