Peter David on Fallen Angel and the return of Sachs and Violens

Wow, lots of Peter David stuff going on over here. This time, David talks to Newsarama about Fallen Angel and a special two-parter he has planned. It seems the book was close to cancellation before a spike on TPB sales saved it. Click on the headline for more.

Good to see the numbers actually helping a book for a change. I always find it interesting when creator-owned characters hop into a company-owned book like Fallen Angel. Or is FA creator-owned, a la Lab Rats and Sovereign Seven? Any ideas?

UPDATE: As suspected, FA is not creator-owned, and David explains some of the hurdles he had to endure to get the crossover going. Also, both issues of the story will feature covers by former Sachs and Violens artist and co-creator George Perez. Nice.

I love George Perez as much as the next guy, but just having him do covers bugs me. I'd much rather see him take off as much time as he needs, and then do interiors. He's a legend of the industry, and a truly talented artist, and having him just doing covers is like dangling a carrot in front of a very hungry donkey.

I'm a little torn by this. I don't mind covers by other artists, but it would have been great to see Perez do the artwork for the story. It's probably a timing issue. DC/PAD wanted to slot the story in now to help sales, and Perez probably didn't have the time. Also, a lot should be said for continuity. They might not want to disrupt the flow of the regular art team. In the end, I think the covers work as a nod to the past book and a cool way to promote the current one.
