Detroit comic shop profiled

Hoemtownlife.com, out of Michigan, profiles comic retailer Bob Smethers and his shop Comic City in Detroit:

While traveling the country working for KB Toys, Bob Smethers noticed something unique about the Detroit area.

He found most major United States cities seemed to support at least one comic book chain with three-to-five stores. But Detroit didn't at the time.

Being a casual comic book reader himself, the Baltimore man consulted his wife, and they decided to go into business for themselves — right in our backyard.

"It was time to leave my work, and we decided this is something where my past skills in retail and my wife's past skills in retail, as well as in administration, would be very useful in putting something together here," said Smethers. "We love Detroit and we're going to stay here forever."

The story goes on to promote Free Comic Book Day.
