The McCloud Trilogy: Making Comics

Echo Online takes a look at "Making Comics," Scott McCloud's third book on comics theory, due in September:

This September McCloud will publish his third book in the series call "Making Comics." The book is based on a series of successful public lectures and seminar he has done over the past four years. He will be teaching "Comics theory and practice" at EMU this semester. EMU will be the last university his seminar is taught at before the publication of "Making Comics."

McCloud first taught his seminar in 2002 when he was asked to teach at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Since then he has taught at the University of Maine, California State University, Boston Arts Academy and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

"I have never solicited these trips," McCloud said about the way he has taught. "If somebody is interested enough to get me to speak it's usually a good reason."

Teaching helps supports McCloud's more experimental work. "When I was primarily doing web-comics they weren't paying the bills. So if I wasn't able to make a living doing what I wanted, talking about doing what I love to do was the second best thing," McCloud said.
