Bruce Campbell and Neil Gaiman
Last Friday B-Movie legend Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, Army of Darkness) was in Portland to do a signing for the release of the audio edition of his latest book, Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way.
Yesterday, Neil Gaiman also came through Portland to promote his newest novel, Anansi Boys.
I got to see both speak.
First with Bruce. A very cool guy. He really packed in the fans at Music Millenium. Some highlights from the Q & A section were:
*He put down rumors of a Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash film.
*Mentioned that the Adventures of Briscoe County Jr. was coming to DVD in the spring.
*Spread the word for the Man With the Screaming Brain comic he did with Dark Horse.
*Mentioned how he thought that the Army of Darkness comic was good even though he had nothing to do with it.
Then he proceeded to sign CDs,books, chainsaws, and whatever else the fans had brought.
Neil Gaiman. Also a cool guy. He filled in the pews at the First Congregational Church in an event sponsored by Powell's Books. Highlights of his reading included:
*He mentioned that Terry Gilliam came within $15 million of producing a movie based on Good Omens. The project was to star Johnny Depp and Robin Williams. Gaiman described the project as not dead, just in a "glass coffin surrounded by dwarves".
*Explained why he chose to direct a Death movie and not a Sandman film because he couldn't imagine telling the Sandman story in less than four films.
*Gave a plug for the upcoming Coraline movie directed by Henry Selick (Nightmare Before Christmas)
*Mentioned something called Mirrormask.
*Said the Satanic Salsa is still residing in a few bottles back home.
Judging by the crowds, I suspect these guys are still signing autographs.

"Gave a plug for the upcoming Caroline movie"
I think that's Coraline.
You're right. It's fixed now.
Just sharing info:
Mirrormask is a movie that had a limited release on Sept. 30. I believe Dave McKean directed with effects production by the Henson company. I've heard some critics say it's the Wizard of Oz story of our generation. Gaiman's blog, www.neilgaiman.com, will have info on release dates and locations.
