Smith on Bendis
In a thread on Mark Millar's fan forum that quotes a thread from Brian Bedis' message boards, Kevin Smith comments on his relationship with Bendis.
A fan asked Smith about his relationship with Bendis and Smith responded:
Good friends? No. I don't even know if I'd call us friends, really. We're friendly.
Problem is, a couple years back, I kind of acted like an a****le, re: Bendis. I guess I got jealous or felt threatened by his rising star, and childishly lashed out at him a bit: once in Wizard (with some quote about wanting to put "Daredevil" back in the top ten again) and once at Marvel (when I insisted he couldn't use Bullseye in one of his arcs, because I was supposed to do the next DD/Bullseye story, following Karen Page's death). So rather than become fast friends with a guy I share similar interests with, I acted like a total f**k-hole.
To which Bendis responded:
yeah that is absolutely a true story. kinda surprised he shared it.
the whole time it was going on i was baffled. only after his similarly worded apology to me did i understand it.
all is long forgotten and forgiven in my book. because i gotta say- i can count on one hand the people i know who have apologized for anything they've done... ever. it was personal growth and you so rarely see it in anyone, i was thrilled to reward it.
Oh, as the comic turns. For the full story check out the thread.
